Carol Mauro - Carol Mauro is Coordinator of the Center for Academic Excellence / Liberal Arts and Humanities and a Professor of Reading in the Communication and Language Arts Department on the Grant campus.
She is a member of various committees on campus, including the Curriculum Committee and the Class Size Committee. As faculty advisor to the Western Student Press newspaper, she sits on the College Publications Board. Prior to her full-time position at Grant, she was Education Director and Community Development Director for Literacy Suffolk, a non-profit organization serving low-literate and non-English-speaking adults throughout Suffolk County. She began her career in education as a teacher of English at Robert Moses Jr. High School, in North Babylon, New York. She holds a bachelor's degree in education, English, from Buffalo State; a master's degree in education, reading, from Hofstra University; and is pursuing a second master's, in library science, at Stony Brook University and Queens College.
In between her work in education, Carol was an editor, and a writer, in Manhattan for such national publications as Esquire, Dial, Instructor, and Working Woman magazines as well as The New York Times.
