Located in two locations on the Grant campus, the Centerfor Academic Excellence offers students the opportunity to sharpen academic skills in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Students are encouraged to visit early in the semester to familiarize themselves with the many resources and to maximize their academic potential.
The Liberal Arts and Humanities center, in Sagtikos 100, provides tutoring to students on a scheduled-appointment basis. Free one-on-one tutoring, by academic professionals, is available in writing assistance across the disciplines; French, Italian, and Spanish languages; basic computer skills; and special needs tutoring. Along with audiovisual learning materials and related workbooks, center computers offer grammar, writing, and language courseware to reinforce academic skills for students in the college’s ESL program as well as for students in various liberal arts and humanities disciplines. The center’s reading lab is home to RDG 098/099 and ESL 011/012 students fulfilling their course skills requirements. The center’s test room ensures that the requirements of special needs students are accommodated during the administration of exams.
The Business and Sciences center, in the Health, Sports, and Education Center, Room A129, provides free tutoring in mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, economics and accounting. Tutoring is available on a walk-in basis only, during scheduled hours. In addition, instructional software for anatomy and physiology, chemistry, and mathematics is available on computers and there are instructional videos available on VCR tapes and CDs for many mathematics classes that students may borrow.
