The Centers for Academic Excellence offers students the opportunity to sharpen their skills in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Free one-on-one and small group tutoring is available in many disciplines. Tutoring is done on a walk-in basis with no appointment necessary. The Center is open seven days per week and Monday through Thursday evenings. (Click to view the Center for Academic Excellence and Center for Academic Excellence Annex hours.) Students are encouraged to visit often early in the semester to familiarize themselves with the resources and to maximize their academic potential.
The services of the Centers for Academic Excellence are available in three locations. In Room S100, located across from the Library, we offer writing assistance, basic computer tutoring, and foreign language tutoring in the Foreign Language, Reading, and ESL Labs. We also have available audio-visual materials, grammar and writing software to reinforce content and skills taught in the classroom as well as Internet-accessible PC computers which can be used for word processing and Powerpoint presentations. The Annex, located in Room MA129, offers tutoring in mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, and accounting as well as instructional software for anatomy and physiology, chemistry, and mathematics. In Room S101A, we offer Special Needs Testing and Tutoring services. Professional Assistants and tutors who work at the Centers for Academic Excellence include college faculty and professionals in their respective fields.
