QUESTIONS ABOUT THE 315-9 PROGRAM

Why study online at Suffolk County Community College?

A community college experience stands as an excellent option for students seeking affordable, quality higher education taught by faculty with credentials from many of the country’s most acclaimed colleges and universities. Our online program utilizes new technologies and the Internet to provide flexible learning opportunities. Rather than studying on campus, the online business program affords you the opportunity to complete all degree requirements from your personal computer.

SCCC’s online business courses are designed for students who are self-motivated and can work independently in a less structured environment. All courses are offered over the Internet and are neither time nor place bound. You can work from your home computer and have access to campus resources wherever you live.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Prior to enrolling in any online courses please use the attached Self-Study Test to assess your ability to succeed in this alternative format.

Do I need to meet any special requirements to matriculate into the online degree program in Business Administration?

How are the Online Business classes facilitated?

Suffolk County Community College is using the SUNY Learning Network (SLN), Blackboard and Desire2Learn for the online courses.  The activities of online classes are the same as traditional classes -- students read course materials, write papers, do research, and communicate with their instructors and fellow students.  The only difference is that the class is held via the Internet.

Are Online classes easier than traditional classes?

Actually online classes can be more challenging than traditional classes.  Individuals must be self-motivated, very dedicated and willing to work independently.  Students must complete all assignments within project deadlines in order to complete the courses successfully.

What kind of hardware and software do I need to take online classes?

For an on-line course, at-home hardware must include the following; access to a computer having a Pentium processor running Windows 95 or higher, at least 32 MB RAM, and a minimum of a 28.8 Kbps modem. Macintosh users must have System 7 or higher. A connection to the Internet using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, is required along with an Internet email account supplied by the college. Course work will also require the use of a word processor with the capability to save files in the Microsoft Word 6.0 (or higher) file format.

Students registered for classes at Suffolk County Community College are assigned email accounts and have access to the Internet/WWW through the College's network.

Depending on classes taken, it is possible that students with older computer systems may encounter limitations to participation.

If I need to add or drop an online course, is it done through Suffolk County Community College or the

Are my credits and/or degree earned at Suffolk County Community College accepted by four-year Colleges/Universities for transferring?

Absolutely!  Suffolk's course credits are accepted at virtually every four-year college and university in the country. Students who complete a transfer degree program (A.A. or A.S.) will generally find that all their courses are accepted for transfer credit. Students who complete a specialized degree program (A.A.S.) or who transfer before completing a degree will generally have their courses evaluated for transfer credit on a course-by-course basis

If I have taken Business Administration courses elsewhere, can I transfer them into my online program at SCCC?

You need to have your official transcripts from previous colleges sent to SCCC.  Once your college transcripts have arrived, your transfer credits will be evaluated automatically and you will be notified of the results. If your transcripts are not in English, they must be translated and evaluated by an official evaluation agency or national consulate. You can view the Transfer Evaluation Tables for an unofficial preview of how your courses are likely to transfer (available for select colleges only).
