I. COURSE TITLE: Case Studies in Business Administration
II. CATALOG DESCRIPTION: 2006 – 2008
Advanced capstone course for Business Administration (A.S., 207) majors taken final semester before graduation. Working dependently and in teams, students integrate, strengthen, expand, apply and document business administration skills and competencies. Through solution of case studies, students demonstrate abilities to think critically, solve managerial, quantitative, and ethical business problems, and utilize contemporary business-related technology. Other active learning assignments may be included as students exercise effective business management and leadership skills and develop a global business mindset. Prerequisites: completion of at least 45 credits in the Business Administration A.S. degree curriculum (207-1), including EG11, AC12, BA51, BD57 and L71.

III. GOALS OF THE COURSE:
The faculty will provide students with the opportunity to review, practice, demonstrate and document their achievement of the student learning objectives listed below. To that end the student will participate in writing, information management, and critical thinking exercises to (1) strengthen their content knowledge and (2) prepare for advanced study in business administration at the 4-year and university levels.
IV. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Upon successful completion of BA 68 – Case Studies in Business Administration
students will be able to:
A. Use contemporary business vocabulary and concepts;
B. Apply a broad range of information management, quantitative, research,
and technological skills to business-related tasks;
C. Use critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills;
D. Communicate well orally and in writing;
E. Manage business resources through the management functions of planning,
organizing, staffing, leading, and evaluating;
F. Demonstrate the development and use of profitable business strategies
related to business operations, marketing, accounting, and management;
G. Identify and explain examples of ethical and social responsibility decisions
faced by domestic and international businesses; and
H. Discuss how globalization has affected U.S. business practices.
V. ACADEMIC PROGRAMS THAT REQUIRE BA 68:
Case Studies in Business Administration is a required course in the A.S. in
Business Administration (207) degree program.
VI. MAJOR TOPICS REQUIRED (12 ½ HOURS)
UNIT ONE: Management Functions and Resources of Business (1 1/2 hrs.)
UNIT TWO: Management Decision-Making Strategies (1 1/2 hrs.)
UNIT THREE: Business Communications (2 hrs)
UNIT FOUR: Ethical Decision-Making & Social Responsibility (1 hr.)
UNIT FIVE: International Business and the Global Workforce (1 hr.)
UNIT SIX: Working in Teams and Workplace Diversity (1 1/2 hrs.)
UNIT SEVEN: Business Research and Technology (1 1/2 hr.)
VII. STUDENT LEARNING ASSESSMENT ( 2 HOURS)
At the instructor’s prerogative, assessment tools may be selected from a wide range of traditional and contemporary learning assessment methods. A research assignment, a team assignment, an oral presentation, and a technology-based assignment are, however, strongly recommended in order to assist the student to develop and demonstrate these critical business and academic skills. The use of a student electronic portfolio is also encouraged as an individual, data collection method.
VIII. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
BA-68 is a graduation requirement for students in the A.S. in Business Administration degree program. It is not a prerequisite or co-requisite for any other course.
IX. SUPPORTING INFORMATION:
A wide assortment of appropriate visual aids is available through the college library system and/or campus departments. Contemporary periodicals including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, business magazines, Internet sources and on-line textbook support also serve as useful teaching and learning resources.
