Error message: 'GUID has expired' is related to an intermittent 'slow connection' error in the MySCCC portal or at the D2L server - likely a momentary issue that will self-resolve after another attempt to login.
Office of Instructional Technology 10/21/2009
Internet Explorer 8.0 'content display' issue resolved by system patch on 9/24/09 for 'after 9/24' users. For users who had display issues because before 9/24 IE 8 had been used on any computer for a login to D2L, this is the manual workaround that must be performed once (subsequent logins will then have the entire view screen display correctly and not have only the left side of view appear to end user which was the problem):
If you are having trouble viewing course content in D2L try the following:
1. Enter the course, and click on the Content link.
2. Click the Content Topic link.
3. Slowly move the mouse as far right as possible until the cursor changes form.
4. Left click and drag the invisible frame bar to the left to view the topic.
5. Click on the Content link in the menu to save your viewing changes.
6. Click on the content topic, you should see the content now.
7. Call the D2L help desk only if you are unable to view the content (1-877-325-7778) after going through steps 1-6.

NOTICE.......There was a failure of the login link to D2L at the MySCCC portal late Monday night 9/21 to Tuesday morning 9/22 at 10:15 a.m. when the 'D2L Login' link was repaired. This failure affected ALL Virtual Campus access for both students and faculty of the College.
Office of Instructional Technology 9/22/2009
NOTICE.......The MySCCC portal and other services failed on Wednesday September 9 from early morning to later in the day on Thursday September 10. Additionally, there was a local failure on Sunday morning September 13. This made it impossible to access D2L (the Virtual Campus) where your online course(s) are located. Any questions about due dates for course assignments and work will be answered only by your professor/instructor. Everyone: Students, Faculty, Staff, Administrators all could not access the MySCCC portal today, so your inability to access D2L was not an individual event - this failure of the network made it impossible for anyone at the College to do their online course work. Please access your course(s) in D2L as soon as your ability to logon to the Virtual Campus is restored so that you may continue forward with your coursework.

Students If you can logon to D2L (SCCC Virtual Campus), can locate your course link in My Courses at D2L, but then can't see how the course is set-up, try clicking the 'Content' link or see if you can read a 'News' item. Most online courses are set-up similar to what you may reviewed in the 'Student Orientation' (which is a link in blue header area of the first page that loads after you get to D2L from the MySCCC portal). If you cannot locate any course content at all, you should go to the Course Mail area in your online course and send a message to your instructor. Accessing D2L through the MySCCC portal is the most crucial first step. The second step is to be able to access your online course at the Virtual Campus (D2L). The third step is to be able to understand and then use the course information and course content to participate in your online course.
ESSENTIAL!!!
You MUST have an active MySCCC portal account to access online courses at SCCC! Go to the main SCCC web page at http://www.sunysuffolk.edu/ and click on the Lighthouse icon in upper right corner of page. This link will take you to the MySCCC portal logon page where you may choose to create a MySCCC account if you do not already have such an account. There is a delay between creating the account and then being able to access the MySCCC portal with your logon username and password. Once in the MySCCC portal as a logged-on user, you can click on the My Courses tab and then locate the 'D2L login' link to access your online course environment at SCCC's Virtual Campus.
IMPORTANT NOTICE : Course LINKS are not visible at D2L home page until the Course start date!
Students: To locate your COURSE(S) in D2L 'Virtual Campus' (after using the MySCCC portal and locating the 'D2L Login' link which automatically connects you to D2L), look for the 'My Courses' area in D2L and click the 'Search' button. Your online course link(s) will appear (at START DATE, see above 'Important Notice.') Use these links to access your online course at SCCC. Also, if you are new to the use of D2L and taking an online course, click on the links in the upper blue field at the Virtual Campus page - go through the 'Student Orientation' and also read the FAQs. The News feature in the white area below blue header also contains information. Additional D2L information is available in the lower left corner as links to 'How To' documents for D2L common course tools. (This message updated 5/5/09)
A note on the STUDENT ORIENTATION: This explains how to use the Desire2Learn course environment. To be successful in your online course as a first-time-online student, it is important to know how to take courses that are available in the SCCC Virtual Campus. The Orientation explains how a typical course works, what the different tools are and how to use them, and helps you become familiar with how a D2L online or blended/hybrid course 'looks.'
REMINDER: Don't forget to print out your online or blended Course Schedule so you stay on track!

You are registered for a Fully Online or Blended/Hybrid Course
Online/Blended courses will be hosted at the SCCC Virtual Campus, using a new course management system called Desire2Learn (D2L).
To access your online/blended course(s), you will first need to logon to the My SCCC portal (accessible from the College’s homepage at http://www.sunysuffolk.edu/). You will be automatically redirected to the main Virtual Campus web site. Your course(s) may be accessed by clicking links in the My Courses section.
General information on D2L and directions for use and help are available at: http://department.sunysuffolk.edu/DistanceEducation/index.asp (The above web site may also be accessed from the College homepage: Click on ‘Academics’ then look for ‘Distance Education’ link)
