Suffolk County Community College’s Excelsior Program provides high school students the opportunity to earn college credit by means of a high quality experience in the high school comparable to that of the college classroom.

Our goal is to inspire increasing numbers of high school students to attend college, promote their self-confidence while building motivation for continued study, and provide advanced-learning opportunities for motivated students with an effective transition to post-secondary learning.  Qualified students enjoy greater flexibility in college having earned college credits prior to commencing post-secondary study.

Motivated high school juniors and seniors take SCCC college courses at their high school campus during their regular school hours, while simultaneously working toward high school graduation.  College credits earned in the Excelsior Program can be applied towards a degree at SCCC or can be transferred to many other colleges and universities thus, minimizing the time to complete a college degree and affording more time for internships, dual majors, minors and/or study abroad, etc.  Acceptance of credits for college-level courses is determined by the receiving college or university.  Enrollment in an Excelsior Program concurrent enrollment course generates an official SCCC transcript for each student.

Participating in the SCCC Excelsior Program affords a multitude of benefits to enrich the high school student’s academic experience, while providing challenging college courses that allow students to begin their college transcript and enhance their college admissions profile.  Students should contact their high school administration or guidance counselor for selection and enrollment of approved courses offered through the Excelsior Program in their respective high school.  Students must meet eligibility requirements and be approved by their high school teacher or guidance counselor for admission into the courses.  Student enrollment applications may be obtained from students’ respective high school administrative office. 

Excelsior Program courses are offered at a special affordable tuition with no additional college fees applied. Qualified students will have the opportunity to experience the demands of college-level expectations, and are welcome to utilize college library resources.
