Maritime Aspects of the Viking Age—The Danish Experience

This program features an intensive five day course of study at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, Denmark’s medieval capital city.  At the museum, you will participate in interactive lectures with the world’s leading experts in the field of Viking era maritime history and archaeology centered around the museum’s five Viking era ships excavated from the adjacent Roskilde Fjord.  Participants in this program will learn the principles of Viking era ship construction and artifact preservation.  Students will also participate in the exciting, hands-on field of Experimental Archaeology by actually learning to sail replicas of the museum’s Viking era ships.  Our program also includes excursions to the nearby cities of Roskilde and Copenhagen.
